EAP WORKSHOP WEEK TEN

EAP WORKSHOP WEEK TEN

During week ten we will be reviewing Learning Objective 16 Shelter

Now in week 10 you have just about completed your Emergency Action Plan.

You will have noticed that you are accessing information presented in prior Learning Objectives.

Learning Objective 16 is no different. It is a natural progression from Learning Objective 15 Evacuation.

“No one is obliged to save, protect or shelter you; if someone helps you out take it as a blessing and be grateful for it. But make every effort to be independent and survive without seeking help from others.” ― Latika Teotia

In this learning objective you will be accessing information from;

Risk Management, Rally Points, Communications, Food & Water and First Aid.

Sheltering is appropriate when conditions require that you seek protection in your home, place of employment, or other place you are when disaster strikes.

To effectively shelter, you must first consider the hazard and then choose a place in your home or other building that is safe for that hazard.

For example, for a tornado, the room selected should be in a basement or an interior room on the lowest level away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls.

If seeking shelter you have several options available to you.

Stay Home

Shelter in Place

Local Friends and Family

Mass Care Facilities (Public Shelters)

Commercial Lodging

Out of Town Friends or Family

Camping Out in your back yard or a suitable county or state camping facility.

Now is the time to research the available options. Identify the courses of actions you should or would take. Make a decision and stick with it.
