“Unveiling the Urgent Need for Emergency Preparedness: A Personal Journey”
Picture this: Hollywood, CA, many years ago.
As the sun began to rise one morning, I was jolted awake by what felt like a massive truck rumbling past, causing the building to shake violently. Tremors continued to shake the ground, revealing that it was, in fact, an earthquake.
In the aftermath of this seismic event, I couldn’t help but notice a profound shift in the behavior and mindset of my loved ones and the entire community. Laughter was replaced with fear, and the sparkle in people’s eyes seemed dimmed. It was as if a blanket of uncertainty had settled over the once-vibrant Los Angeles basin.
A conversation with my sister shed light on a deeply troubling realization: the lack of preparedness and knowledge in our community. The question lingered, “What would have happened if the earthquake had been worse?” It became clear that countless individuals, just like my sister, felt entirely unprepared and helpless in the face of potential disasters.
Motivated by a desire to make a difference, I took it upon myself to investigate the support available from emergency agencies. Disappointingly, I found that their focus was primarily on post-disaster response rather than providing practical, easily applicable tools and resources for pre-disaster planning.
Time passed, but the situation remained unchanged. Many years after the Loma Prieta earthquake, families still lacked the necessary knowledge to safeguard themselves against emergencies. The agencies entrusted with community protection seemed disinterested and complacent in their duty to educate and empower.
As both a father and a grandfather, I strongly believe that every individual should possess the skills to protect their loved ones, homes, and livelihoods from sudden and unpredictable natural disasters and emergencies.
Drawing from my experience as a U.S. Army Senior Drill Sergeant, where I honed my skills in course design and planning for the U.S. Army Non-commissioned Officer Academy, as well as my years of teaching with the American Red Cross, I am confident in my ability to help you create a practical, affordable, and easily implementable emergency planning framework for yourself, your home, and your business.
