Tropical Storm Gonzalo

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Gonzalo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane some time Thursday, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported Wednesday night.

According to NHC’s 11 p.m. update, Gonzalo is packing 60 mph winds and is moving west at 12 mph. The seventh named system is about 1,045 miles east of the Southern Windward Islands.

Gonzalo is expected to move faster west over the next couple of days. Gonzalo is expected to approach the Windward Islands this weekend, NHC says.

Tropical Storm Gonzalo is spinning in the Atlantic between Africa and the Lesser Antilles.

But its intensity forecast is very uncertain.

It should arrive in the southern Windward Islands Saturday, as a hurricane or tropical storm.

Gonzalo is the earliest seventh named storm to form in the Atlantic.
