Word of the Week Practice

Word of the Week for December 13th, 2021, is Practice

Remember not to forget. There is no actual learning unless you do something.

Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Remember the rule of threes? Three seconds of panic or indecision will kill you.

Read all the books you want, listen to all the podcasts, and watch every YouTube video you can find.  And you will have a pretty good understanding of the process and how to do it.

But you will not know how to do the task unless you do it, and that’s where Practice comes in.

During my tenure as a Senior Infantry Drill Sgt., we instructed in the tell show do method of training. First, we told the privates what they needed to know. Then, we showed them how to do it and practiced it. This is their ability to perform the tasks at hand and demonstrate competency.

It is in no one’s best interest to lecture and show the task without performing the task.

This kind of planning will get people killed.

Set up a plan to practice your techniques and procedures with your family and loved ones.

The techniques for practicing your plan of action fall into three categories.

Drills, rehearsals, and exercises.

Follow up with periodic practice exercises to ensure you remember the plan.  This will allow you to adjust your plan based on your family or environmental changes.

Stress and anxiety will disappear because you know what to do and when.

Till next time
