What do you want?

During the last couple of years Emergency Action Planning has been conducting an unofficial survey about why people who live in at risk locations do nothing to prepare for the disasters and emergencies that will come.

No one has been able or willing to answer that question with much more than a; Duh, yes it might happen… So?

So, I needed to ask different questions… I picked three. And people like you started responding.

  1. Why are you seeking information on planning now?

2.What would you like to get out of your emergency action plan?

  1. And what has been holding you back from creating an emergency action.

Several things have come up.

Some of these items are;

Generally just to be prepared and not worry about the disasters.

Have plans based on various scenarios.

How can I wait it out and stay in place even if I don’t have power.

What is the decision point for when I have to leave and when I leave what is a plan to do it?

What are the emergency evacuation routes?

List of important items to have.

Have enough provisions (food/water/batteries/electricity) for three months.

What is the average time the supplies will last?

How much will this all cost?

What are the things that would trigger the plan?

A plan that includes what to get in the future (maybe a generator).

Protect our pets.

Protect our home.

Having a checklist of what to do and have it ready when the hurricane or disaster is approaching.

Lack of time to prepare.

How can I make it a priority?

Don’t really think about disasters until they get close and their already happening and it’s too late.

Not knowing where to start.

Spending money if the chances are small that it will actually happen.

Clutter in the garage.

These questions fall into common categories.

Keep in mind that each of these answers is an independent inquiry that has an independent answer. And I have distilled them into three common classifications.

1. Money

2. Time

3. Information

So tell me.

  1. Why are you seeking information on planning now?
  2. What do you want from your emergency action plan?
  3. And what has held you back from creating an emergency action plan
